F50.8 TUNiT Uppers

Standard
New microfiber called “AdiDot” – soft, lightweight and durable synthetic, very easy to take care of and has no water retention levels which allows the shoe to keep its lightweight regardless of weather and field conditions.

ClimaCool
Material engineered to reduce building-up heat and moisture.  ClimaCool provides a 360° cooling effect for the entire foot through the adiHex/mesh upper construction and ventilation cutouts in the outsole.

Leather
Soft calf leather that is probably the closest in quality to Kangaroo leather. It needs some brake-in time to soften but becomes very soft, durable and comfortable.

AllesKlar Technology
The new Adidas F50.8 TUNiT also features a transparent heel/bottom unit called “Alles Klar” (All Clear)  that enables reduction of weight of the soccer shoe and, thanks to different degrees of hardness, results in much greater stability and flexibility. Since greater stability is required in the heel area, the material of the “Alles Klar” element is particularly strong and stable here, becoming softer and more flexible towards the forefoot.

F50.8 TUNiT Chassis

Choose between two different chassis, the “standard” or the “competition” chassis. The standard comfort chassis offers perfect stability, cushioning and optimal distribution of stud pressure.  The ultra light competition chassis offers ClimaCool moisture management for maximum flexibility in the forefoot and optimum breathability, great for the big soccer match.

F50.8 TUNiT Stud Systems

Three stud systems ensure you get the right traction for your surface.   They include Soft Ground, Hard Ground and Firm Ground.

Soft Ground (SG) is used on soft and/or very wet pitch. These studs have aluminum tips and come in two lengths: 18mm for the heel area and 15mm for the forefoot area.

Firm Ground (FG) is used on firm and dry natural fields. They are made of TPU; the length for the heel area is 15mm and 12mm for the forefoot area.

Hard Ground (HG) is used on very hard and dry surfaces. These rubber studs come in 13 mm length for the heel area and 10mm for the forefoot area.

An integrated “wear indicator” on the FG and HG stud systems alerts you so you know when to change the studs.

F50.8 TUNiT Insole

The insole, or sockliner, determines the degree of comfort and breathability of the soccer shoe.  The standard sockliner offers a premolded, soft and slightly cushioned insole for perfect stability, cushioning and optimal distribution of stud pressure. The somewhat thinner, perforated and thus extremely lightweight, breathable sockliner with ClimaCool moisture management offers maximum flexibility in the forefoot and optimum breathability and comfort for the competition sockliner.

Summary

The F50.8 TUNiT is an improvement on the previous models. Especially in its flexibility and weight.  A complaint with earlier versions was reliability.  With the interchangeable components being more securely integrated, due to the “Alles Klar” heel to toe unit, should help. Another great thing about the new Adidas F50.8 Tunit is that all components from all versions are compatible with each other.

On a day when the heat on the field topped a punishing 107 degrees, and the referee twice stopped play because of the sizzle, Argentina proved itself a champion again.

Argentina became the first team in 40 years to successfully defend an Olympic soccer gold medal when they defeated Nigeria 1-0 on Saturday in Beijing.

Argentina won the gold in Athens in 2004, and the silver in 1996 when they were beaten in the final by Nigeria.

No men’s team has managed to successfully defend a soccer gold medal since Hungary in Mexico City in 1968.

Angel di Maria provided the finish to another piece of magic from Lionel Messi, helping Argentina defeat Nigeria 1-0 for its second straight gold medal in Olympic soccer.

Di Maria collected Messi’s expertly timed pass in the 58th minute Saturday and nonchalantly lobbed it over the goalkeeper. Nigeria, the 1996 champions, settled for the silver medal.

This question refers to two different soccer cleats. When Nike puts out a line of soccer cleats they usually have three different “levels.” The Mercurial line of Nike soccer cleats is currently in its fourth generation. The Mercurial Steam is the most basic and cheapest level of the line.  They are made with the cheapest materials and are just fine for growing children or people who are not sure they want to stay with the sport.

The next level up is the Mercurial Talaria.  It is constructed out of Teijin KING-75 synthetic leather and are a much better soccer cleat for the money. If you are a mid- to upper-level player who is looking for a really decent soccer cleat, I would suggest this one.  You will get a very good soccer cleat that is only 9.6 ounces, while other soccer cleats of comparable price and construction are usually 10 ounces or more. Additionally, the Mercurial line is one of the few that is constructed completely of blades, not round spikes. This allows for greater speed because you cut into the turf rather than gouging into it.

The top-of-line Mercurial Vapors are constructed of supple Teijin microfiber leather and weighs a mere 8.1 ounces! It has covered lacing and looks incredible. Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United wears these.

So, ultimately, it comes down to price. If you are a serious player who can appreciate the difference of a couple tenths of an ounce reduction of weight and are willing to fork over $200, definitely go for the Vapors. On the other hand, the Talarias are not a bad compromise because they are still constructed with quality materials and have the same external heel-counter and separated front and back TPU plates for weight reduction as the Vapors. And do not forget to look at how comfortable the soccer cleats is. A good soccer cleats should fit like a sock and give you a good feel for the ball and the ground at all times.

Ronaldinho scored two second-half goals Sunday to lead Brazil to a 5-0 win over New Zealand and a spot in the quarterfinals of the Olympic soccer tournament.

Ronaldinho netted his first goal of the tournament with a free kick in the 54th minute, and added another with a penalty kick in the 61st. The two-time FIFA Player of the Year hadn’t scored for Brazil in an official competition in nearly a year.

Anderson opened the scoring less than three minutes in. Alexandre Pato scored in the 34th and Rafael Sobis added another goal in second-half injury time to keep Brazil on track for its first gold medal in soccer.
